Matthew Young - OUR 2022 END OF YEAR CHARITY RECAP

OUR 2022 END OF YEAR CHARITY RECAP

With 2022 coming to a close, we wanted to take some time to provide an annual review of all the charitable organisations we’ve been involved with. As a socially-responsible company, we take great pride in donating to charities that are chosen by passionate members from within our team. We believe that the closer to home these different social issues hit, the better fuelled we are to effect positive change in our communities. You’ll see that the LXR family has chosen a variety of meaningful causes to support, of which your donations have been a great help. Remember, this is just the beginning of our journey together and we hope to have you join us in our future charitable projects next year!

One Tree Planted

What’s more important than the ground we stand on and the air we breathe? Life on our planet would not be possible, if not for the trees around the world that sustain all living beings. Trees play a crucial role in our global ecosystems and their importance cannot be overstated. Part of our corporate responsibility at LXR is to think of the big picture, when it comes to our impact. We are constantly searching for ways to reduce the amount of waste we produce and are always looking to make a positive impact wherever we can. When we were offered the opportunity to partner with One Tree Planted, we knew we just had to. One Tree Planted is an organisation that plants one tree for every dollar donated to their cause, in order to combat the effects of deforestation and climate change. Going beyond tree planting, One Tree Planted also offers education and network building for individuals, businesses, and schools that are willing to donate or volunteer. We’re proud to have added 9,000+ trees in forests across Canada and the United States.

LGBT YOUTHLINE

Our ongoing partnership with LGBT Youthline is one we take seriously, given that this charity means a whole lot to many of us at LXR. LGBT Youthline is a queer, trans, two-spirit* youth-led organisation that affirms and supports the experiences of youth (29 and under) across Ontario, Canada. They are dedicated to providing resources and support systems for many 2SLGBTQ+ youth. We strongly believe that their work is essential, given the oftentimes lacking resources for this community. By the end of 2022, we have been able to fund a total of 800 calls for LGBT Youthline, thanks to your efforts. This was especially necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic, due to a 30% increase in calls which resulted from even further isolation. With your help, we hope to add even more calls and additional resources that LGBT Youthline can use to help the underserved 2SLGBTQ+ youth of our communities.

LA RUE DES FEMMES

In case you weren’t aware, we are proudly Montreal-based. You’ll find that many of the charities we work with are close the hearts and homes of those working at our Montreal office. Founded in Montreal in 1994, La Rue des Femmes has been combating the effects of homelessness on women. Their mission began when the founder of the charity, Léonie Couture, decided to open La Rue des Femmes with the conviction that “it is possible for women to heal the serious wounds they have suffered and to return to a normal life”. This charity welcomes and cares for women who are homeless or who are at risk of being so. Their mission also extends beyond the mere care that homeless women need. La Rue des Femmes also acts as a research and training centre for relational health and public awareness. By providing valuable research and awareness, La Rue des Femmes hopes to break through some of the social stigma that women without homes face. We firmly believe in their mission and are proud to say that we have been able to provide 1,000 days' worth of care for a single woman at the organisation. We hope to continue our work with La Rue des Femmes in the coming years and to make a change in the city where so many of our LXR family call home.

COLLECTIF BIENVENUE • WELCOME COLLECTIVE

What does it mean to be a Montrealer? We think that being a Montrealer is more than just being born here. People transit to and from Montreal all year round and have their own connection to the city. For some, coming to Montreal for work is a momentary part of their journey, for others it signifies a safe place to establish their roots. No matter the circumstance or where someone is from, we believe that Montrealers are welcome to all those seeking to make a better life for themselves and their family. Imagine having to abruptly restart your life in an unfamiliar place without necessarily knowing about the services and resources that are meant to help you. This is a situation that most refugees face when they first arrive in a new country. Collectif Bienvenue • Welcome Collective aims to alleviate some of the hardships that new refugee claimants face when they first move into their new homes. We are proud to have worked with this Montreal-based charity that believes that all newcomers to the city should be warmly welcomed into their new homes. They provide a network of locals for the new refugees in order to reduce stress and isolation. Furthermore, Collectif Bienvenue • Welcome Collective helps these new families by gathering basic furniture and other essential home items that are necessary for living with dignity and security. By the end of the year, our donations have provided 7 new families in Montreal with fully furnished homes.

STOMP Out Bullying™

Children are the future and their education is vital for a brighter tomorrow. That’s why it’s so important for us to do what we can to protect our children and to make sure they are safe at school. Many of us at LXR are parents who understand the need to make our children’s lives as safe as possible. STOMP Out Bullying™ is an organisation that we most recently partnered with and we couldn’t be more delighted with their work. STOMP Out Bullying™ is dedicated to changing the culture for all students. They work to reduce and prevent bullying, cyberbullying and other digital abuse by educating against homophobia, LGBTQ discrimination, racism and hatred. Your donations have helped to fund multiple services at STOMP Out Bullying™, such as helping those at risk of suicide, raising awareness through peer mentoring programs in schools, public service announcements by noted celebrities, and social media campaigns.

NANKIND

Nankind, formerly known as Nanny Angel Network, is an organisation we are thrilled to be working with. The indiscriminate nature of cancer affects the young and old, as well as those starting out their new family lives. They are dedicated to helping financially struggling families with a parent who’s been diagnosed with cancer. Their work helps to alleviate some of the daily struggles of life by providing meals to these families. Nankind ultimately offers the gift of time, as time spent not worrying about food is time spent towards recovering with loved ones. Thanks to your donations, we have been able to donate 6,250 meals to families in need since the beginning of our partnership.

Are you wondering how you can contribute towards the many different charities that we work with? We donate a portion of the proceeds from preloved items during our charity campaigns. We aren’t currently running any campaigns at the time of writing; however, we did ask Nankind for some of their favourite designer bags. This will give you an idea of the kind of designer bags you can get for your collection, while also helping out a good cause.

Mini Le Chiquito Wicker is an absolutely unique designer shoulder bag that’s both intriguing and daring. We can’t help but think of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You can take a look at all of our preloved shoulder bags in pink for more designer bags that will honour the fight against breast cancer.

The Neonoe MM is a classic looking Louis Vuitton tote that can easily be dressed up or down. We aren’t surprised that Nankind chose a beautiful Louis Vuitton bag, given that our LV collection is vast and diverse. See for yourself with our selection of preloved Louis Vuitton bags.

One of our favourite designer bags at the moment happens to be one that Nankind also seems to love as well. The Padded Casette screams unique, just like Bottega Veneta. Bottega Veneta has gained a devoted following for its original designs that are so different, you’d struggle to even find any of their bags looking the same. See what kind of preloved Bottega Veneta bag speaks to you the most.

Next year, we hope to be working with all the charitable organisations we have been building strong relationships with as well as supporting other charities with noble goals. We are on track to keep expanding our network as we continue to choose charities that are both local and meaningful to the LXR family. We look forward to your future support in the next coming months! If you missed our last article, you can find out all about the five holiday events to get ready for.
