LXR’s 2022 charity recap
Now that we’re already halfway through the year, we’re excited to give you a charity recap. And first things first, we have to thank all of you for your continued support. If it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t be able to work with all the amazing organisations that we’ve connected with. As the year goes by, we continue to collaborate with various community-based operations by donating a portion of the proceeds that are gathered from your purchases. Given the inherent social responsibility that we have as a luxury reseller in the circular fashion economy, we understand the impact that each purchase can make. As such, let’s take a moment to go over all the charities that we have been able to donate to, all because of you.
One Tree Planted
What’s more important than the ground we stand on and the air we breathe? Like us, One Tree Planted believes that the health of our forests is of the utmost importance. Not only do we rely on trees for the air we breathe, but also for their large role in the ecosystems that sustain life around the globe. One Tree Planted is an organisation that plants one tree for every dollar donated to their cause, in order to combat the effects of deforestation and climate change. Going beyond tree planting, One Tree Planted also offers education and network building for individuals, businesses, and schools that are willing to donate or volunteer. We’re proud to have added 9,000+ trees in forests across Canada and the United States, of which 3,000 have been added this year alone!
Nanny Angel Network
According to the NIH, approximately 39.5% of men and women will develop some sort of cancer at some point in their lives. That is indeed a frightening prospect. The indiscriminate nature of cancer affects the young and old, as well as those starting out their new family lives. There is however the sad reality that illness can disproportionately affect those with lesser means. For this reason, Nanny Angel Network has made it their mission to help financially struggling families with a parent who’s been diagnosed with cancer. The work of Nanny Angel Network helps to alleviate some of the daily struggles of life by providing meals to these families. Time spent not worrying about food is time spent towards recovering with family. This year we were able to donate 1,500 meals for families within the Nanny Angel Network for a total of 6,000 meals since the beginning of our partnership.
This charity hits a bit closer to home for some of us at LXR. LGBT Youthline is a queer, trans, two-spirit* youth-led organisation that affirms and supports the experiences of youth (29 and under) across Ontario, Canada. They are dedicated to providing resources and support systems for many 2SLGBTQ+ youth. We strongly believe that their work is essential, given the oftentimes lacking resources for this community. Halfway through 2022, we have been able to fund an additional 200 calls for LGBT Youthline, which adds up to 600 calls that have been funded thanks to your efforts. This was especially necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic, due to a 30% increase in calls which resulted from even further isolation. With your help, we hope to add even more calls and additional resources that LGBT Youthline can use to help the underserved 2SLGBTQ+ youth of our communities.
La Rue des Femmes
Founded in Montreal in 1994, La Rue des Femmes has been combating the effects of homelessness on women. Their mission began when the founder of the charity, Léonie Couture, decided to open La Rue des Femmes with the conviction that “it is possible for women to heal the serious wounds they have suffered and to return to a normal life”. This charity welcomes and cares for women who are homeless or who are at risk of being so. Their mission also extends beyond the mere care that homeless women need. La Rue des Femmes also acts as a research and training centre for relational health and public awareness. By providing valuable research and awareness, La Rue des Femmes hopes to break through some of the social stigma that women without homes face. We firmly believe in their mission and are proud to say that we have been able to provide 1,000 days' worth of care for a single woman at the organisation.
Collectif Bienvenue • Welcome Collective
Can you imagine having to abruptly restart your life in an unfamiliar place without necessarily knowing about the services and resources meant to help you? This is a situation that most refugees face when they first arrive in a new country. Collectif Bienvenue • Welcome Collective aims to alleviate some of the hardships that new refugee claimants face when they first move into their new homes. This Montreal-based charity believes that all newcomers to the city should be warmly welcomed into their new homes. They provide a network of locals for the new refugees in order to reduce stress and isolation. Furthermore, Collectif Bienvenue • Welcome Collective helps these new families by gathering basic furniture and other essential home items that are necessary for living with dignity and security. Our donations have provided 7 new families in Montreal with fully furnished homes.
That’s a wrap for our 2022 charity recap. Hopefully, you now have a better idea of where your donations are going. So, what’s next? Simply put, we’re going to keep moving forward by expanding our charity network with different support systems and other non-profit organisations. You may be wondering how we choose which charities to work with. Because of the diversity in background of our team, taking in suggestions from within is a choice we've been happy to make. We absolutely love that the charities we work with are both local and meaningful to the LXR family. What can we say? We are very proud to support various charities that align with the values we hold dear. By the end of 2025, we hope to have been able to donate a total of 1 million dollars. We know it’s quite the goal, but we would be absolutely honoured if you could help us achieve it. We look forward to your future support! If you’d like to read about our other socially conscious initiatives, our sustainability mission can give you an idea of where we stand.
