Charles Paquin - Four fashion influencers empowered on International Women’s Day!

Four fashion influencers empowered on International Women’s Day!

On this global holiday we commemorate the progress from around the world for women’s rights as well as the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of the women in our lives. To make a positive impact on our community, LXR is donating to the non-profit organization La Rue Des Femmes, but more on that later. First, let’s meet four diverse Montreal-based influencers and hear what they have to say about empowerment and how they approach confidence through their own style and vision.

KATIA HANINE

KATIA HANINE

Katia is the influencer and mother who’s behind Lapiz of Luxury. You’ll find her on her blog where she talks about beauty, lifestyle, and everything in-between. Here’s what Katia had to say for our IWD interview!

What would you tell your younger self?

“I don't regret anything in life because it made me who I am, but if I had to give my younger self one tip it would be to take more risks and to be more spontaneous. My career path has always been super detailed and planned out. I knew exactly what I wanted to do but today, many years later, I’m not doing the job that I had planned to do and I am so so happy with my decision and I absolutely adore what I do.”

What makes you feel empowered?

“What makes me feel empowered are the messages I receive from my readers and my community that tell me that I've had a positive influence in their life. In terms of deciding and knowing what to buy for their own body and feeling confident about it. 10 years ago, when I started my blog, that was my whole purpose. I wanted to make a positive impact and show women that they can wear whatever they want. They just need to feel confident in doing so. I really wish to transmit this to my baby daughter”.

What does your style say about you?

“I think if you go scroll through my Instagram and you look at my style, we can say that my style is fun because I love playing with colours. It is daring because I love mixing and matching different prints, different patterns, different textures, and playing with different preloved vintage bags. Overall it’s confidence. I'm all about confidence! I like to feel good in what I'm wearing and I think that when you do feel good in what you’re wearing it totally shows and it exudes in your outfits.”

What is your favourite pre-loved item that you own?

“Let me introduce you to my favourite pre owned bags. This Balenciaga First bag in metallic orange describes exactly my personality. Orange is my favourite colour, but more importantly I was obsessed with Balenciaga City bags when I was a teenager. Nicole Muricci was rocking one of them every week in a different colour and I knew back then that I had to own one of them in my life. This preloved handbag is absolutely perfect! It’s the perfect size, it fits a whole bunch of stuff for my mommy lifestyle, and it adds an instant pop of colour to any of my outfits.”

If Katia’s style speaks to you, you’ll find tons of different designer Balenciaga bags at LXR. If Balenciaga isn’t quite your style, LXR carries a wide variety of used Louis Vuitton bags. We’ve even written about our top 5 Louis Vuitton bags totally worth the investment!

MARINA BASTARACHE

MARINA BASTARACHE

Influencer and entrepreneur! Marina Bastarache is the owner of Nana The Brand. Through her work she creates pieces that help women feel seen, feel heard, and feel beautiful! Let’s find out what drives Marina’s success as an empowered woman!

What would you tell your younger self?

“I would tell my younger self to just go for it! You’re never too old to do something, to start something, to learn something. When I was 14 years old I was so scared of what others would think when I wanted to do gymnastics. I can’t believe I thought I was too old at 14 years old! So just go for it. Learn to love yourself first because when you do you’re going to see that everything in life is going to become easier and more beautiful.”

What makes you feel empowered?

“What makes me feel empowered is being a woman entrepreneur because I get to have that vision, I get to see it in my head, and then I get to create it. I get to see it through all of its stages and then it comes to life. Everything I create is for women and I see women feeling empowered by what I've created. I get to see women feel seen, feel heard, feel beautiful, and I guess that that “girl gang” is what makes me feel empowered - truly!”

What does your style say about you?

“Oh my God, that is such a good question because I don't even know what my style is. I would say that my style tells you that I'm bold. That I don't really care what other people think. That I do it for me. That’s something that you learn when you’re in your 30s. You're learning to do stuff for yourself and not for others and I think that my style represents that. I just love it when I go to a friend’s house and when I arrive they’re like “oh my God that’s your outfit? It’s crazy, it's so fluffy. Those boots look like they’re made for space!” That’s when I feel it's perfect because it’s not for everyone but it’s my style - I like it!”

What is your favourite pre-loved item that you own?

“My favourite vintage high-end bag is this awesome vintage Chanel bag. Why is it my favourite? I think it's a timeless piece, the fact that it's black and gold… I mean, it’s so Chanel. I've always been into fashion. I've always loved fashion and I guess it was like a little girl's dream to get my hands on my very own Chanel bag and I think it fits with everything. It just looks so good with everything. It's perfect and I'm sure you approve. What can I say - it's Chanel!”

We’ve got tons of used luxury bags like the Chanel Flap and many other CC Logo Chain bags that are sure to grab your attention.

KATIE CUNG

KATIE CUNG

Katie Cung is a digital creator who’s all about lifestyle. She will make you discover what’s hot in Montreal or wherever she travels for that matter.  Follow along her journey through life and get inspired! For now, let’s see what she had to say when we asked her our questions for IWD.

What would you tell your younger self?

“So I’d like to tell my younger self to trust herself and to not be afraid. To not be afraid of who she is and to not be afraid of what she thinks society thinks of her. Because even though she might not think it, she's bold, she's beautiful, she's creative, and she's confident. I would like to say that she just needs to trust herself - keep living life boldly passionately. Do things with lots of love, lots of care, lots of attention, and she will get where she wants to be.”

 What makes you feel empowered?

“I feel empowered by women, especially women of colour that live their passions and live their dreams. I feel empowered by these successful women because even though they are successful now, they for sure went through a lot of hardships, a lot of ups and downs, to get where they are now, especially being women of colour. That just really empowers me and makes me believe that I can do it too.”

What does your style say about you?

“So I don’t think you could say I have one particular style because I love to explore and to experiment with different styles depending on the season - depending on my mood even. I guess in that sense I'm pretty versatile and adventurous, but I do like to keep most of the pieces in my wardrobe as classics. Like a black blazer or a really good pair of blue jeans. I like to keep my closet on the more minimal side so that I can have these pieces for a long time and they can be timeless throughout the years.”

What is your favourite pre-loved item that you own?

“So my favourite pre-loved handbag at the moment is an item that I acquired pretty recently and that I'm really really proud of. It’s the Chanel Double Flap Medium purse in this gorgeous chocolate brown colour with silver hardware and it is so special to me because this is my very first Chanel purchase. This was a purchase that I decided to do - from me to me- as a reward for myself for all the hard work that I did over the last couple of years. It was definitely a splurge but I love it so much because it is such a unique colour and I feel like it's a very me colour - so that's why I love it so much.”

If you’ve fallen in love with Chanel like Katie, know that LXR is just one click away. We’ve got used designer handbags from Chanel that will melt your heart. As if you didn’t need any more convincing, we’ve talked a bit about why Chanel bags are such a good investment in this article.

SHARIFA SAMORA

Sharifa Samora

Effortless style inspiration, beauty & skincare product reviews. That’s what you’ll find with mother and influencer Sharifa Samora! We’ve asked her our four questions for this International Women’s Day to get a better idea of what makes her tick!

What would you tell your younger self?

“I would tell my younger self that she needs to be true to herself. She needs to stay her authentic self and that it's okay to not fit in. It’s okay to be different from the rest. I would also tell myself a little reminder, I would tell myself it's a marathon - not a sprint! Just keep on believing in your dreams, keep on chasing them, and stay true to yourself. Be kind to others but don't let them drive you crazy. That's something I would definitely tell my younger self.”

What makes you feel empowered?

“The thing that makes me feel empowered is definitely the way I dress. I really love to put on a fancy dress or an amazing piece of clothing that makes me feel good. Just looking good for the day… I feel there's just so much empowerment in style and the way you dress, it makes a huge difference if you’re dressed right or not - if you have that right colour. It's just like your whole body language changes. That is something that really empowers myself. Another thing that empowers myself is if I've learned something new, if I’ve done something, if I've gained some knowledge - those things make me feel empowered.”

What does your style say about you?

“That's a tough question. I think my style says about me that I love taking care of myself. I love to wear stylish clothes, at least what’s stylish for me. My style definitely says about me that I love to look put together - I love to feel good - I love to feel my best. That's something my style says about me.”

What is your favourite pre-loved item that you own? Why?

“That's a very hard question to answer but I can't choose between my two winners and those are the two bags that I wear the most. Definitely my Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis. It is definitely so hard to find a Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis in stores, so I was on the hunt for a good one. That's one of my most worn bags, I love that I can wear it like a satchel but I also wear it as a crossbody. I can easily dress it up or down, it's just such a beautiful bag - it ages well. I have a daughter and I know she's going to wear that bag one day. I also love my Givenchy Antigona Mini bag, I think it’s a bag that you don't see a lot that's what I love about it. I do feel like the Givenchy Antigona mini bag should deserve a bit more love, because it's quite a good bag. I don't need to baby it a lot and I just love it. It just really compliments my style!”

Great quality preloved vintage bags are becoming harder and harder to find, but that’s not a problem at LXR. We’ve got plenty of excellent Louis Vuitton crossbody bags to choose from. If you’re interested in Givenchy Antigona you may just like what we have to offer.

We’d like to thank Katia, Marina, Katie, and Sharifa for sharing their experiences with us! We just can’t get enough of empowered women. Their perspectives and their stories are a great source of inspiration for us and for the many other women in our communities. That being said, the reality is that there are many women among us who need our help. Here’s why we chose to donate to La Rue des Femmes.

La Rue des Femmes

La Rue des Femmes is a non-profit organization that welcomes and cares for women who are in a state of homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. They are a research and training centre for relational health, and raise public awareness about the issues and challenges of homelessness. Our donation this year equates to 1000 days of care for one woman at the organization. With your help this International Women’s Day, a portion of the proceeds from your purchase will be donated to help La Rue des Femmes make a difference in our community. Women empowerment means empowerment for all the women - no matter their circumstance.
